About my Project
Hello! My name is Kaylee and this is my Girl Scout Gold Award project. I am teaching people the importance of Honeybees in our environment.
Honeybees are important for pollination of crops. The pollination of crops used for food and clothing require pollinators such as Honeybees. Bees make up 80% of pollinators.
I have designed this website to educate people on the importance of Honeybees. I have also made seed frisbees (seed infused paper) and included the recipe on this site, to distribute to people to plant pollinator friendly plants.
My family are beekeepers and that is why I chose this project. I realized that people are not aware of the issues that affect the bee population. The bees are harmed when people use pesticides and kill plants that are a main food source for bees. Native plants that are often thought of as weeds are actually necessary for the bees. People are not aware that there is a difference between "bad" and "good" bees. If the bee looks "plastic" it is bad, if it looks "fuzzy" it is good. Other challenges for bees include: habitat loss, disease, parasites and environmental contaminants.
